- The station opened in March 1898, when the Koya Railway line between Sayama Station and Nagano Station opened, as a pilgrimage station for Takitani Fudo Myo-o-ji Temple, located about 3 kilometers to the east. It served as the nearest station until March 1902, when Takitani Fudo Station on the Henan Railway (now the Kintetsu Nagano Line) opened. Famous for its ability to cure eye ailments, Takitani Fudo is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in 821, and the temple is crowded with pilgrims on the 28th of each month. Nishikiori Park, about a 20-minute walk east from the station, is a natural park that makes use of the fields, mountains, ponds, and other natural features, making it ideal for observing wild birds and flowers. It is the only station on the Nankai Koya Line located within Tondabayashi City.
