Koshoji Betsuin Temple

Tondabayashi Koshoji Betsuin is a Shinshu Koshoha temple located in Tondabayashi Town, and is the central temple of Tondabayashi Jinaimachi, the only district in Osaka Prefecture designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government.

Around the beginning of the Eiroku era (1558-1561), during the latter half of the Sengoku period, Shoshu, the 16th head priest of Kyoto's Koshoji Temple, a powerful Jodo Shinshu temple, purchased wasteland on the left bank of the Ishikawa River and began developing a temple town within the temple complex, building a temple to serve as its central pillar.
